The Gifts of Christmas Past

Even though they think that information should be free, the good people at Boing Boing dot net are willing to occasionally celebrate the glories of things that are not - like cool gifts from the annual Sears Christmas catalog. This week they linked to scans of the 1962 catalog by Flickr user Telstar Logistics, which are full on neat-o.

This is what passed for “muted” in 1962: red and gold paisley on silk.

When pricing out your favorites, remember that according to the Inflation Calculator, $1 in 1962 was equivalent to $6.51 in 2006 dollars. Conversely, $1 in 2006 was equivalent to $0.15 in 1962.

* P.S. - Don’t forget to check out some groovy pages from the 1977 J.C. Penny catalog as well.
