The spirit of loving environment is growing higher nowadays. It is not only for adults but also for kids especially those who live in big city, or even suburbs. As parents, you may do many things with your kids or even with the all people surround you. Some activities will reconnect you with nature and our environment.

It can begin with hiking on the weekend. This activity will take your kids back to nature. Moreover, you can suggest them to pick out a favorite tree in a park or forest and adopt it. Your child will take on the role of being the tree’s caretaker. Do bark rubbings with crayons and paper; leaf collection and pressing in the fall; and look for flowers and fruit in the summer. Each year, take pictures of your child standing beside the tree.

Another activity can be done in your neighborhood. Have your child make daily notes of all the wildlife there, take photos, draw pictures, and write down the times of sighting, habitats and behavioral patterns. It will be amazing to know different species are living in your own backyard.

A good way to teach our children about taking care of our planet, and get some exercise at the same time, is to take bags with you when you go for a walk. It is used as the place of the waste while you “clean up” along the way. You can pick up stray bottles, newspapers and discarded food containers. Rubber gloves are needed in this activity. Then, you can organize an “Environment Club” in the neighborhood or through your child’s school. Use the time to talk to your children about recycling and reducing waste because environmental education for kids is more important than ever. Teaching your kids to care for the planet will bring you closer together and will give them life skills they can pass on to others.
